I am Martina Nevado, born in Lima, Peru, and a Fine Artist, writer, and educator. From a young age, I knew I wanted to be an artist. I was always creating and designing; I loved making my own toys. At age 11, I designed and hand-sewed my very first dress. I didn’t have a sewing machine, so I learned to create it with nothing but a needle, thread, and a lot of patience. I remember how proud I felt seeing something I had imagined in my head slowly come to life in my own hands. Looking back, that little dress was more than just something I made—it was the beginning of my love for creating and believing in my own ideas.  As I grew older, my passion for making art became closely connected to my desire to teach

 

After moving to the United States, I worked in childcare for 15 years while raising my children during their formative early years. At 51, after my youngest son graduated from high school, I returned to school to study Baking and Pastry at Hudson Community College while continuing to pursue my passion for Art and Fashion Design. I earned an Associate Degree in Fine Arts in 2019.

 

Today, I share my love of creativity as a Sewing and Cooking Instructor at my community’s public library. I care deeply about children and families, and I continue learning so I can inspire and teach others. I discovered that sharing creative knowledge with others was just as meaningful to me as creating my own work. Through teaching, I have the opportunity to encourage curiosity, build confidence, and help others discover their own creative voices.

 

My family has always been my greatest support.
